Abstract

Monitoring is an indispensable part of the operation of dams to permanently ensure the safety of the dam itself and the downstream communities. Of great importance is the measurement of seepage, by which the operator is able to recognize changes in the structure in time, comprehensive and reliably. However, some existing dams do not have a functioning system for measuring seepage. Under which conditions the safety of a dam can be assessed reliably even without seepage measurement has been investigated in the context of a doctoral thesis. The results will be presented and discussed.
