Abstract
The present study is a response to critical comments of forest pathologists and mycologists induced by an earlier publication concerning the needle reddening disease of Norway spruce in southern Germany. The objections brought forth against a hypothesis explaining the occurrence and development of this disease are rejected. It is clearly demonstrated, that these objections don't even touch the central part of the hypothesis which, however, still lacks experimental verification. An improved description of the reddening disease is proposed summarizing the present state of knowledge about this epidemic.
