Pflanzenzüchtungsforschung-P3-Verbundvorhaben: "Rapssaat als einheimische Quelle von hochwertigem Protein für die menschliche Ernährung (RaPEQ3) - Teilprojekt D

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

RaPEQ in its third phase (RaPEQ3) will focus on two main goals i.e., further reducing the bitter taste and breeding for high protein yield.
Taking advantage of the developed rapeseed mutant lines with mutated flavonol synthase genes that should reduce accumulation of kaempferol derivatives in seeds, we will develop new mutant lines. These will be further impaired throughout flavonol biosynthesis, including the accumulation of a specific hydroxylated naringenin metabolite in seeds. This compound, identified in RaPEQ2, is an effective bitter taste modulator. Regarding protein yield we intend to make use of genomic and phenomic selection methods to advance new rapeseed elite lines with high protein yield and reduced kaempferol derivatives in seeds. Furthermore, using the high throughput bitter taste identifier platform, we expect the identification and validation of
further relevant off-taste compounds in a variety of rapeseed meals and other rapeseed protein enriched fractions as well as sweet-tasting protein compound(s) in rapeseed preparations.
