Description

In the 1980s, the Swiss sociologist Lucius Burckhardt provocatively asked ‘Garden art where to?’ and emphasised that landscape architecture and planning would only have a future if they became more aware of their theoretical and historical foundations. At the time, the profession seemed to be developing too superficially into a pure design profession with no social relevance. To this day, the comparatively young discipline of landscape architecture can be characterised by a certain lack of theory.

Research into the history and theory of 20th century landscape architecture plays a central role at the Chair of Landscape Architecture and Trabsformation in order to secure and strengthen the future viability of the discipline.
