Classroom experience, characteristics and outcome: multidimensional educational goals and the views of students and teachers

The CECO project investigates in which ways teachers most successfully implement multidimensional educational goals in their planning of lessons. While taking into account the teachers’ and the students’ perspective, CECO provides relevant hints on how to convey multidimensional educational goals in the classroom.

"Besides the transfer of knowledge and cognitive skills, school education also aims to create a positive attitude towards school and the subject as well as to encourage students to learn. However, it is a challenge to consider all these so-called multidimensional educational goals in everyday school life. In order to focus more on such multidimensional educational goals, it could be beneficial to change competence-oriented teaching plans.

The CECO project investigates to what extent teachers consider multidimensional educational goals, when planning lessons. Moreover, CECO also puts a spotlight on mathematics and other STEM subjects – What impact do multidimensional educational goals have on competence-oriented teaching in these subjects? By contrasting the teachers’ intended instruction with the students’ perception based on the data of PISA survey 2022, CECO takes into account the teachers’ as well as the students’ perspective.

As the project analyses classroom characteristics, classroom experience as well as classroom success, it reveals ways in which teachers can most successfully convey multidimensional educational goals in the classroom. Hence, its outcomes can be used to develop strategies and shape the means of instruction in the future."
