Scientific Career

Professor Hoffmann conducts research in the field of differential geometry and mathematical visualization.

Professor Hoffmann studied in Berlin. After receiving his doctorate (2000), working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Massachusetts (Amherst, USA), and acquiring his postdoctoral teaching qualification (habilitation) (2003), he was the recipient of a DFG Heisenberg grant at LMU. This was followed by sabbatical appointments in Jena, Munich and Berlin. In 2008 Professor Hoffmann was appointed full professor at Kyushu University (Fukuoka, Japan). In the same year he accepted an appointment at TUM. He is still a visiting professor at Kyushu University and a member of its Math-for-Industry GCOE.
