The primary research activities of Professor Rentrop (b.1948) cover the numerics of differential equations with applications in engineering and natural sciences. They focus on the modeling and numerics of differential algebraic systems and the reactive Euler equations.

After studying mathematics at the University of Cologne, Professor Rentrop received a doctorate at TUM in 1978 and acquired his postdoctoral teaching qualification (habilitation) there in 1982. He has held professorships in Darmstadt and Karlsruhe and taught as a visiting professor at the University of California, San Diego, and in Catania, Geneva and Trondheim. He has been a professor of numerical mathematics at TUM since 2002.
