Scientific Career

The research interests of Prof. Schlichter (b. 1950) lie in social software, computer-aided group work, community support systems, distributed collaborative applications, mobile context-aware information and cooperation systems, e-learning and knowledge management.

After studying Informatics and obtaining his doctorate in 1980 at TUM, Prof. Schlichter spent two years there working as an assistant professor. After that, he worked at Siemens Research Technology Laboratories in Princeton, USA (1982-85), the Xerox Corporation’s Webster Research Center in Webster, USA (1985-89) and Softlab GmbH in Munich (1989-91). In 1991, he was appointed professor of applied computer science/cooperative systems. He took sabbaticals to work at the European Xerox Research Lab, Grenoble (1995) and Ixos, Munich (1999/2000). Prof. Schlichter is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the IEEE Computer Society, Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI) and the alumni association Bund der Freunde der TUM.
