Research interests

Prof. Chen obtained his bachelor at the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, China and PhD at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2014 and 2018 respectively. He then started to work as a lecturer and tenured senior lecturer at Monash University, Australia from 2018 to 2024. In 2024, Prof. Chen was appointed to the professorship for Software Engineering & AI at TUM.

Prof Chen’s field of research is the area of the intersection of software engineering, human-computer interaction, software security and AI. Specifically, he applies data-driven methods including AI/ML, NLP and light-weight program analysis technology in the following directions:
1) AI/LLM-assisted automated mobile app development.
2) AI-empowered mining software repository.
3) Security of deep learning and mobile apps.
