Abstract

The paper presents the Markov reward approach to the comparative analysis of different types of traction electric motors for assessment the reliability associated cost of the ships' hybrid-electric propulsion systems. The preliminary results show that there are several appropriate machine types and it is necessary to decide, which kind of equipment has to be defined in advance for application respectively. In the paper, the Markov reward approach was developed for computing of average availability and the entire reliability associated cost, considering vehicle operational conditions and aging process of electric motors. Based on the obtained results of simulation, the decision about optimal type of traction electric motor for an icebreaking ships has been suggested.
