Abstract

The ongoing integration of distributed generators (DGs) in distribution grids and uncertainties of distribution system operators (DSO) regarding control stability with new voltage controllers show a need for action. The 'U-Control' research tackles this issue. Questions of effectiveness, stability, optimal parametrization and economics are investigated in a large consortium consisting of universities, DSO and industry partners. Answers are given based on simulations, laboratory investigations and field tests. The project results lead to specific recommendations for action for DSO, manufacturers and standardisation committees. Technical aspects of voltage controllers and derived recommendations for action are the main focus of this paper.
