Abstract

Potential Mapping is a non-destructive measurement method that helps to identify steel corrosion in concrete. The probability of detection of the potential mapping method has a high economic impact, because structural assessment based on results of this method often influences decisions for maintenance and repair measures. The true potential field in the concrete is affected by different factors which have to be taken into account during interpretation of measured potential differences. Influencing factors are among others of minor importance concrete resistivity, cover depths and the anodic area. The intension of the presented paper is to analyze the influence of the concrete resistivity on potential mapping experimentally. Frequently gained potential mappings are investigated of forty year old reinforced concrete specimen. This specimen is stored outside and the potential fields were measured after different weather condition. The effect of resistivity on potential mapping is described qualitatively.
