N2 - Detailed knowledge of the anatomy, and its variations, of the hypoglossal nerve is essential, when dealing with upper airway stimulation. In this chapter, the variability of the hypoglossal nerve, the late hyoglossal branch, the transverse and vertical intrinsic lingual muscles, the first cervical nerve, pathophysiology and mechanism of hypoglossal nerve stimulation are discussed.
