Abstract
The inspection gallery of the Brombach main dam is approximately 1.6 km long and was founded on sandstone at the slopes of the valley, while soil sediments form the underground at the bottom. The differential sediment between the underground water barrier (concrete cut-off wall) and the inspection gallery is compensated for by a soft type foundation using a mastic asphalt cushion at the valley slopes. In the soft ground area that presents differential settlements up to 50 cm, the invert of the inspection gallery remains open until the process of consolidation ceases. An impervious connection between the cut-off wall and the inspection gallery was installed. As a result of controlled placement of soil material of adequate, differential stiffness, the theoretical maximum load on the gallery could be reduced by one third. (English abstract)
