Abstract
This investigation was started by studying drop formation as the main process, using single nozzles for drop generation. Results obtained were applied to a specified design of sieve plates with downcomers. In addition, tests were carried out to determine if dual flow trays (without downcomers) would constitute suitable internals for improving mass transfer performance. A simple relation is developed which helps to define a satisfactory performance of sieve plate extraction columns with downcomers.
