Study of the combined combustion of municipal sewage sludge in coal dust furnaces

Within the framework of the research programme "APAS Clean Coal Technology" of the European Union, experiments have been carried out on the combined combustion of communal sewage sludge with lignite and bituminous coal in pulverized firing. In these experiments, it has been possible to demonstrate what changes have to be considered in regard to the operating performance of the plant, level of efficiency, flue gas emissions and also the quantity and properties of solid residue in the utilization of dried sewage sludge as a supplementary fuel. In an economic analysis, an assessment of the economic potential is subsequently undertaken.
