Abstract
A stereometric method for digitizing the fracture surface of unidirectional fiber composites is presented. The x and y coordinates of the center of each fiber fracture are measured and the z coordinates of the points of fiber fracture are determined from the parallax on stereopair micrographs. The differences of the heights of each broken fiber end to the ends of neighbor fibers are calculated from the digitized fiber fracture locations. An application of this method is shown for a ceramic fiber-reinforced aluminum matrix composite tested in three-point bending.
