N2 - This paper presents a method for the fully automated segmentation, classification and quantification of the morphology of individual cells in phase-contrast images. We utilize this method to calculate automatically the confluence of the corresponding cell culture and to quantify the degree of toxic damage of each individual cell after phenol incubation. These results are compared to standard cytotoxicity assays.
