Abstract

Silver ions' diffusion into the microcrystalline cellulose matrix and its subsequent reduction by means of both reducing properties of the matrix itself and specific reducers gives cellulose materials containing silver with a degree of oxidation 0. The highest quantity of silver intercalation into the cellulose matrix is attained by using glycerol as solvent and potassium hypophosphite and sodium boron hydrate as reducers. Maximum content of metallic silver reduced in cellulose matrix is 7.6 mass. % in bulk and 16.5 mass. % on the fibre cellulose surface.
