Abstract

Servo presses require accurate control of the drive motors. To get high product quality, a predictive torque control (PTC) algorithm has been implemented in the controller of the induction motor for a mechanical servo press. Bothe simulation and experiment were carried out. By comparing with field oriented control (FOC) method, the study showed that the position control accuracy using PTC is as good as that of FOC. In addition, the PTC method requires only one tenth switching frequency of the inverter compared with FOC. This helps to reduce heat losses and electromagnetic interferences. It can be concluded that PTC is a solid alternative of the commonly used FOC controller for servo press drive.
