Abstract

Rising penetration of both electric vehicle charging infrastructure and heat pumps cause changes in time-based load behavior and peak load magnitude. This development calls for investigation of the impact of these newly added loads on urban low-voltage electricity grids. Using representative grids is an established approach to reduce simulation and load modeling workload. This study proposes a method for selecting representative grids based on building structure and topological features using hierarchical clustering and Ward's linkage criterion. Twelve representative grids for the six building structure clusters identified for the city of Munich are described as well as the distribution of specific features across clusters.
