Abstract
Preincubation with nonviable VSL-3 lysate inhibits in vitro splenocyte TNF production stimulated by physiologic cecal bacterial products. VSL-3 lysate stimulates IL-10 production, but this inhibition of TNF secretion is IL-10 independent. A protein fraction of VSL-3 stimulates IL-10 secretion, but inhibitory activities of VSL-3 are not mediated by protein or DNA components.
