Abstract
The Ethiopian Mapping Authority (EMA) has always produced topographic maps in a conventional, analogue way. Since 1998 digital technologies have been introduced into the organisation; however, few have really been utilised so far. This means that digital technology has neither been able to reduce the relatively long production time required for most mapping jobs nor improve response time to clients' requests for products or services. The authors present their approach to a drastic improvement in performance.
