Abstract

Free grazing farm animals as well as wildlife herbivores are influencing structure and composition of their habitats by practising different grazing strategies. By using GPS-collars with integrated activity sensors, high-resolution behavioural patterns and positions of free grazing animals were recorded continuously. The results of analysing GPS-data quality, chronological sequence of behavioural data and spatial aspects of behaviour are presented. The outcomes will be the basis for modelling control strategies, which can help to reduce environmental impacts of grazing animals as well as to facilitate pasture management for farmers, especially in alpine regions.
