Abstract

We discuss how low-energy collective interband plasmon excitations can be used to tune the optical properties of individual single wall carbon nanotubes. Two specific examples are considered. We show that interband plasmons can efficiently mediate enhanced electromagnetic absorption by pristine semiconducting carbon nanotubes and bipartite entanglement in hybrid metallic carbon nanotube systems. We develop a theory for (non-linear) optical monitoring and control of the above phenomena. Our findings pave the way for the development of a new generation of tunable optoelectronic device applications with individual carbon nanotubes.
