Abstract

THE EQUATIONS OF MOTION FOR TWO-DIMENSIONAL LAMINAR FLOW IN ROTATING CHANNELS WITH DIVERGENT OR PARALLEL WALLS ARE SIMPLIFIED TO THE FORM OF BOUNDARY LAYER EQUATIONS AND THEN SOLVED NUMERICALLY.THE CALCULATION YIELDS THE VELOCITY AND PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION AND THEIR DEPENDENCE UPON THE POSITION AND THE RELEVANT PARAMETERS: REYNOLDS NUMBER; ROTATION NUMBER; ANGLE OF DIVERGENCE OF THE CHANNEL.THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE ROTATION DECREASES THE PRESSURE LOSS, WHICH RESULTS FROM FRICTION, IN COMPARISON WITH THE STATIONARY CHANNEL.FOR DIVERGENT CHANNELS THE CALCULATIONS MUST BE FINISHED AT THE POINT WHERE FLOW BEGINS; THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS AT THE PRESSURE SIDE OF THE WALL.(A).
