Abstract

This chapter reviews the state of the art of the materials design and device applications of nanosized oxides as color down-converting filters, i.e. phosphors, highlighting the challenges and progresses in white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) and organic-inorganic white hybrid LEDs (WHLEDs). Although metal-based oxide phosphors have been widely used in different lighting applications, such as threeband fluorescent lamps and plasma display panels, this chapter focuses on the most relevant achievements related to single-point phosphor-converted WLEDs and WHLEDs.
