Abstract
Mono cytes/Macrophages play a crucial role regarding the tissue interaction of biomaterials by producing proinflammatory mediators. In the present study, we investigate the phagocytic inflammation of several surface precoated Ti6Al4V implants. The various surfaces trigger different cytokine expression by primary blood monocytes. The in vitro cell culture model mimics cell-biomaterials interactions and identifies materials with the highest inflammatory power. However the relevance of these results concerning the in vivo behaviour of implant surface needs further validation.
