Abstract

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) was modified by plasma activation and its influence on the formation of a calcium phosphate coating was investigated. Preliminary cell culture testing was performed to analyze the influence of the surface modification of PEEK on osteoblasts. The influence of surface activation on cell vitality was investigated by neutral red assay and MTT test. Induction coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy was performed for the analysis of calcium and phosphorus concentration in the solution at different times. The coatings were analyzed by confocal laser scanning microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and infrared spectroscopy.
