Different handling of pediatric patients with electric accidents was the object of this work. The aim of this paper was to draw up an algorithm, for which patients cardiac monitoring was recommended. Therefore we analyzed the data of 124 pediatric patients with a current accident regarding ECG abnormalities and preexisting risk factors, the accident underlying risk factors, such as seizures, tetany or clammy hands, laboratory changes and the mechanism of the accident. The results of this evaluation were completed by an extensive literature review and have finally led to an algorithm which should help you by your decision to pick out the right patient for further cardiac monitoring. Evaluating our data with involvement of the current literature does not automatically result in hospitalization with cardiac monitoring when the initial ECG is normal and no risk factors exist.
