Abstract
Poly(oxymethylene) dimethyl ethers gain increasing interest as potential diesel fuels due to their excellent combustion properties. In their synthesis from methanol and formaldehyde side products play an important role in the design and feasibility of the process. This work presents experimental data for the formation of the side products trioxane, methyl formate and formic acid under different reaction conditions. Furthermore, a kinetic model from the literature is extended by the observed side reactions.
