N2 - This paper presents a method for the evaluation of important parameters of the operational sustainability, availability, and performance of a vehicle's Multi Power Source Traction Drive, which may be stated as multi-state system with different performance levels: level of perfect functioning, levels with reduced capacity, and complete failure level. The method, based on Lz-transform approach, drastically simplifies the solution in comparison with the straightforward Markov method. The diesel-electric propulsion system of an icebreaker-type Arctic ship with four diesel generators and a main traction electric motor with a various number of phases has been selected as an example. The Lz-transform method was applied for a fault tolerance assessment and an operational sustainability evaluation of the analyzed Multi Power Source Traction Drive.
