Abstract

Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) of two-dimensional homogeneous Isotropic turbulence is conducted using the Interpolated Differential Operator (IDO) scheme, which is highly accurate numerical scheme based on spatial discretization. Fifth-order Hermite interpolation and four stage Runge-Kutta time integration methods are employed. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equation is solved by the SMAC algoritim under the same conditions (initial and boundary conditions, comparable grid number, and time step) as the spectral method. It is found that the present IDO scheme has almost comparable accuracy with that of the spectral method in all the statistical quantities and the energy spectrum.
