Abstract

The chemical stability of vacuum plasma sprayed hydroxyapatite (VPSHA), immersed in two body-analogous solutions, were studied. Morphology of raw powder and coatings was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and coating thickness was determined using a confocal laser scanning microscope. Ion concentrations in the solution measured by inductively coupled plasma atom emission spectroscopy proved that the reprecipitation of calcium phosphate in vitro is inhibited by organic serum constituents.
