N2 - To enable an efficient design or optimization of electromechanical actuators, different levels of calculations are necessary. The goal is to assure an adapted calculation to the state of the design as well as time-saving methods. One possible detailed calculation level next to the FEM (finite element method) is represented by magnetic networks. But solving of these networks, especially of the big ones, is not trivial. The intention of the present paper is to show how an arbitrary given magnetic network can be transformed and reduced to enable its solving by the electrical network analysis. The results of a calculation on the one hand by the FEM and on the other hand by a magnetic network are compared. It could be shown that the accuracy accomplished by the magnetic network keeps up with the results of the FEM, but the effort required is very different. Excluding the model generation, the calculation and meshing time for the 2-D FEM model was about 10 minutes, for the magnetic network only 20 seconds.
