title = "Generalized SU(3) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. (I). Mesonic modes",
abstract = "We present calculations of mesonic (quark-antiquark) modes in a generalized Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with three quark flavours. The effective interaction between quarks is symmetric under chiral SU(3)L⊗ SU(3)R and incorporates a U(1)A-breaking six-point interaction as suggested by 't Hooft. We concentrate on the evaluation of masses and decay constants of pseudoscalar mesons, with special emphasis on the underlying symmetry breaking patterns. Scalar, vector and axial vector mesonic modes are also discussed.",

note = "Funding Information: More recent developments have focused on the generalization to flavour SU(3), i.e. the incorporation of strange quarks into this scheme. Strange quarks are special since their current quark mass mz== 150 MeV is neither {\textquotedblleft}light{\textquotedblright} nor {\textquotedblleft}heavy{\textquotedblright}, and the dynamical implications of explicit chiral symmetry breaking are of particular interest. At the same time, introducing strangeness necessarily implies dealing with the T{\textquoteright} problem and the underlying mechanism of axial U(l), breaking. Several authors {\textquotedblleft}) have recently investigated such a model using an appropriate U( l)A breaking interaction. This interaction was suggested on phenomenological grounds by Kobayashi et al. {\textquoteleft}) and developed by {\textquoteleft}t Hooft {\textquoteleft}*) to represent instanton effects in QCD in terms of an effective interaction between quarks. * Work supported in part by BMFT grant 06 OR 762 and by DFG grant We 655/9-3.",
