Abstract

Because of the Bologna Declaration the German study programmes are in move. At the same time we have first prognoses about the lack of personnel. In the year 2005 the numbers of female students in engineering decrease and we are confronted with a new challenge in management and product development called "Diversity", which needs to "mirror" within the teams of research and development the characteristics of different customer groups, including the two genders. In this sense, Germany may serve as an example of such complex changes in their global context. In this context the new subject "Gender Studies in Engineering" developed a curriculum part for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, which corresponds to the needs of female and male students to get more information and practical experience about their future engineering profession. In the centre of this programme are three seminars of two days each in which the students learn to self organize their learning processes, work in small groups and get their feedback. The Gender aspect is integrated in the several tools the students have to work in. This concept shows the integration of gender and key qualifications in the traditional engineering curriculum and its relevance for the future engineering profession.
