Abstract

Die cast components are subject to major production deviations. Consequently, considerable linear misalignments and gaps along the joint line have to be handled by the FSW-process regarding butt joints. Thus, this paper deals with the influence of linear misalignments and gaps on the mechanical properties of friction stir welded die-cast-aluminum-alloys. Moreover, the retroaction of those production deviations on the welding equipment is examined. Results are shown for 2 and 4 mm thick plates of EN AC-AlSi10MnMg using a milling machine and a heavy-duty robot.
