Abstract

While procrastination may prevent nascent entrepreneurs from founding, we lack insights on its impact on new venture development. Therefore, we study the relationship between founders’ tendency to procrastinate and the development of new venture innovations. Based on self-regulation theory and by taking a boundary management perspective, we develop a theoretical model and test it using a sample of 233 founders nested in 111 founding teams. We find a negative relationship between procrastination and new venture innovations; however, founders’ perceptions of their team reaching out across team boundaries reduces this negative relationship. We discuss implications for research in entrepreneurship and procrastination.
