Abstract

In the first part of the paper, the Euler parameter formalism is presented in terms of matrices. Useful relationships are derived which are applied next to describe the kinematics of relative motion in joints of mechanical linkages and the kinematics of deformation (torsion and bending) in flexible members. As a conclusion, the finite element approach is proposed as an interesting alternative to kinematic and dynamic analysis of mechanisms. (from author's abstract)
