Abstract

New requirements in electrical machines allow multiphase machines a promising alternative for the future. Especially in cases of faults, multiphase machines' degrees of freedom enable several fault-tolerant control possibilities. Open-circuit faults are often a topic of research. The healthy phases are adjusted to fulfill specified targets. In this work an open-circuit fault in phase one of a nine-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine is considered. The necessary current vectors for fault-tolerant maximum torque control are derived and the resulting air-gap field is analyzed. The vector space decomposition matrix is modified accordingly and used in a fault-tolerant control system. Finally, the control approach is compared with another fault-tolerant control.
