Experimental verification of the normative thermal stability of a MOSFET full bridge power inverter

Abstract

Thermal effects are important in the power electronics for battery energy storage applications. This paper presents an experimental verification of the thermal stability of a MOSFET full bridge power inverter used in cascaded H-bridge inverter with split battery modules. The verification of the norm EN 61000-2-4 compatibility of the grid connected multilevel inverter is made by testing the submodules' current overload responses. Furthermore, the thermal capacity of the H-bridge using passive heat sink is analysed and the time constant is investigated. Efficiency measurements of the proposed topology are also made and the impacts of different currents and PWM switching frequencies are presented.
