Abstract

The problems of mobility and urban development resulting from continuously expanding cities require the reduction of pollution and transportation systems that optimally exploit the limited space for roads and transport. Besides urban design or the expansion of public transport, a promising way was developed to reduce the vehicle population in cities: Car Sharing. Customers share cars offered by private providers. The user catches the desired vehicle whenever necessary and only pays the ride, that was actually carried out while he saves the costs for the ownership. The fixed costs are distributed among all customers of the Car Sharing organizations according to established costs. In the last few years, the range of Car Sharing constantly increased in Germany and new providers with different concepts are emerging on the market. That is why the work presented here focuses on a systematic evaluation of the largest German organizations. Therefore, it shows especially the differences between the offered systems, the advantages and disadvantages and in the end in an outlook the further development potential of Car Sharing for example in relation to electric mobility.
