Abstract
The paper outlines the concept of a state-of-the-art GIS-software package using SICAD/open as an example. The most important requirements to GIS-products are discussed. After that the system concept of a GIS-product is explained, using SICAD/open as an example. Additionally the main modules of SICAD/open are highlighted. The paper is concluded by some general remarks on the future development of GIS. -from English summary
