Abstract
Thermomechanical treatment of age hardenable nonferrous alloys (Al, Cu), which combines the strain hardening effect of cold working with the precipitation hardening effect of subsequent aging before the strain hardening effect has been removed by recovery and recrystallization, is known to result in greater hardness than that obtained by either treatment alone. The results of such treatment on plain carbon steel (0. 14%) and 0. 05% Nb microalloyed 0. 12% carbon steel are described in detail.
