N2 - Manufacturing companies operate in an increasingly volatile environment. Due to external influences, they frequently have to make changes to their production. These Manufacturing Changes (MCs) occur in a great variety and number. While standardized processes are commonly used to address MCs, their wide range of variants requires tailored approaches. To make such change-specific adjustments and decisions, a systematic characterization of MCs is required. Therefore, a model for the systematic description and characterization of MCs was developed for this contribution. To this end, a three-step approach was applied: a literature review, an online survey, and expert interviews. The MC model supports manufacturing companies in characterizing changes to handle them individually, thus increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of MCs.
