Abstract

The standard Auxiliary Resonant Commutated Pole topology adds soft switching to half-bridge based inverters but requires a balancing of the DC link midpoint to achieve quasi-resonant or full ZVS switching. This paper presents a method to use the resonant leg not only for soft switching, but also for balancing of the DC link midpoint, allowing additional hardware components to be omitted. The theoretical limits of this method are investigated, showing the maximum balancing current is viable. The practical implementation shows a way to use the balancing algorithms also with adaptive control methods suitable for small and nonlinear resonant tanks. Practical measurements confirm the theoretical considerations and successful implementation.
