Abstract
Background Giant condylomata acuminata were originally described by Buschke in 1896 as benign lesions of the penis. They are rarely seen in the anorectal area and characterized by clinical malignant growth despite benign appearance histolocally. Methods We report on a 40-year old patient with giant condylomata acuminata of the anorectum. Results The aggressive progression of this lesion did not respond to local β-Interferon theapy. An abdominoperineal resection of the tumor was performed in December 1992. The postoperative course was uneventful. The patient is free of tumor recurrence since 2.5 year. Conclusions The rare occurrence of a perineally localized and advanced Buschke-Loewenstein-tumor may require an abdominoperineal resection for curative treatment.
