Abstract
The Institute for Internal Combustion Engines (TU München) and the FZG Gear Research Center (TU München) have jointly initiated a project, Hybrid Concept with Minimal Diesel Engine, (FVV 937). The project aimed at analyzing and evaluating designs of hybrid vehicles with simplified diesel engines using computer simulation. The engine simulation was performed with a 0-D engine cycle simulation developed at the Institute for Internal Combustion Engines. The controller is modeled utilizing the toolbox Stateflow and contains the hybrid vehicle strategy, which consists of the several sub-strategies such as operating strategy of the combustion engine, charging strategy of the electrical energy storage, and recuperation strategy. The drivetrain is modeled as 1D multi-body simulation using the toolbox Simdriveline. The maximum capacity rating of the reference engines can be reached without intercooler in combination with a two valve cylinder head only at clearly lower air-fuel-ratios.
