Abstract

This paper presents steady and unsteady, aeroelastic coupled and uncoupled simulations of the HIRENASD (HIgh REynolds Number Aero-Structural Dynamics) wind tunnel model. The simulations are conducted using the non-linear CFD-solver AER-EU/NS in the time domain as well as the time-linearized CFD-solver AER-SDEU/NS in the frequency domain. The main objective of the paper is to validate both solvers which were developed at the Institute of Aerodynamics and Fluid Mechanics, TU München and to assess especially the applicability of the linearized methods to the HIRENASD-configuration. Therefore, steady and unsteady pressure distributions, structural deformations and damping coefficients provided by simulations are compared with results obtained from the HIRENASD experiment.
